#6–The Ghost of Isolation

The lie that the Ghost of Isolation tells us is that we’re special and therefore, no one will ever be able to understand our precise circumstance. That’s why, the Ghost of Isolation says, getting out of our bubble is futile––let alone asking for help!

Because, after all, who’d be able to help us?

The truth is that the Ghost of Isolation’s only goal is to keep you stuck in your small, familiar place.

So it creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more isolated we are, the more “special” our circumstance is (at least in our head), and the harder it becomes for us to share our stuff with others.

Which of course makes it impossible for anyone to help us, or even lend us a friendly ear––they don’t even know we need them.

That’s why, once I realized this, I made a point to always:

  • speak openly about what I’m going through when I’m feeling lost or scared
  • ask for people’s opinions, suggestions, and support when I’m feeling down
  • ask the questions I need to ask when I don’t understand or want to know more about something

By reaching out to others, I break the walls surrounding my hyper-protective ego.

And do you know who’s guarding those walls? Stay tuned to tomorrow’s email and discover the Ghost of Isolation’s best buddy.

Until then, what bubble in your life do you need to burst?

Love,

Carolina
