#15–Clinging to useless possessions (another one of the Money Ghosts)

Why do we keep things that don’t serve us?

In my closet there’s a beautiful skirt that my sister got custom-made for her in Thailand. It’s beautiful but I kind of hate it.

My sister is a heroin addict since I can remember and my own trauma feeds me pictures of her and her late husband high on dope day in day out.

So, why do I keep that skirt in my closet? As well as a silverware set she also brought back from Thailand, also incredibly beautiful but that I also kind of hate?

Thinking of getting rid of those things makes me feel guilty. Like I’m throwing away something “valuable” (as in, with monetary value) and that’s a no-no.

The Ghost of Clinging to Useless Possessions is behind this, of course.

Because none of these things has any monetary value. And even if the had, I wouldn’t want any profit from any of them. It’s too painful.

So, time to let go.

What do you need to let go of?

Thank you for reading.

Love,

Carolina

PS: is the Ghost of Clinging to Useless Possessions also behind the sunk-costs fallacy?
